After rain permitted only 16.1 overs of play on the opening day, things only worsened on the second day as persistent drizzle kept the players off the field for the entire duration of the play as the umpires were forced to call off the day without a single ball being bowled. Michael Hogan and Co. will be keen to make the most of the moist conditions on Day 3, weather permitting.
Brief scores: Middlesex 64/3 (Michael Hogan 2-16) vs Glamorgan.
Leicestershire vs Derbyshire, Leicester
Such has been the weather at Grace Road that even toss hasn't taken place. The weather forecast for Sunday is slightly better but rain is still expected.
Northamptonshire vs Durham, Northampton
Just like the game in Leicester, toss didn't take place for the second day in a row, in Northampton as well.
While there was no play in the other three games in Division One on Saturday (April 28), the game between Sussex and Gloucestershire made up for more than the lack of action with 22 wickets going down in the day's play.
Sussex, who were comfortably placed at 86 for no loss, were hit hard by Ryan Higgins who struck thrice early in the day to leave them thinking on 105 for 3. However, they went on to lose two more wickets on the same score before Daniel Worrall and Craig Miles ended up with two wickets apiece to bowl Sussex out for 145. Just as Gloucestershire would have looked to make use of their newfound momentum, they too cut a sorry picture for themselves with the bat, being bowled out for just 183, but managing a slim 38-run lead. The damages were collectively mastered by David Wiese and Ollie Robinson, who bagged five and four wickets respectively.
Sussex, batting for the second time in the day, went on to lose two wickets before finishing the day on 51 for 2, with a lead of 13 runs.
Brief Scores: Sussex 145 (Philip Salt 63; Ryan Higgins 5-21) & 51/2 lead Gloucestershire 183 (Benny Howell 37; David Wiese 5-48, Ollie Robinson 4-67) by 13 runs.
